Rugby White Cement 25kg

Rugby® White is a white Portland cement with similar setting and hardening properties to standard grey cements.

Colour-forming materials (principally oxides of iron) are excluded or minimised in the manufacturing process in order to produce a white cement.
White or light coloured finishes may be obtained with selected aggregates or sands and the cement also provides an excellent basis for the use of pigments to produce coloured mortars and concretes.

White Cement Applications

Rugby White Cement can be used to enhance a variety of applications, including:

• Light coloured mortars & concretes


• Architectural and decorative applications where enhanced aesthetic is required

How to Mix Rugby White Cement

Rugby White Cement is not a ready-mixed product and should not be used by simply adding water. It needs to be mixed with suitable sand and/or aggregate depending on the application.

For General Mortar

For general bricklaying and mortar applications, mix approximately:

• 1 part Rugby White Cement


• 5-6 parts suitable building sand


• A suitable mortar plasticiser, where required

Alternatively, a lime mortar mix can be made using:

• 1 part Rugby White Cement


• 1 part hydrated lime


• 5-6 parts suitable sand

Add clean water gradually while mixing until a workable consistency is achieved. Avoid adding excessive water, as this can reduce the strength and durability of the finished mix.

What Sand Should I Use?

Standard building sand can be used for mortar. However, the colour of the sand will affect the final appearance of the mortar. Yellow or brown building sand will normally produce a warmer cream, buff or beige finish rather than a bright white colour.

For a lighter or whiter decorative finish, use a clean, light-coloured or white sand that is suitable for mortar. It is recommended to make a small test mix first where the finished colour is important.

For Concrete

For general-purpose concrete, a typical mix by volume is:

• 1 part Rugby White Cement


• 2 parts sharp/concreting sand


• 3 parts 20mm coarse aggregate

Use clean water and add only the minimum amount required to achieve a workable mix that can be properly placed and compacted. For pale or white decorative concrete, choose light-coloured sand and aggregate, as the aggregates will influence the finished colour.
