Plasterboard Sheets for Walls, Ceilings & Dry Lining
Rose Building Supplies stocks a wide range of plasterboard sheets for internal walls, ceilings, partitions, dry lining, renovation and new-build projects. Our range includes standard plasterboard, fire-resistant plasterboard, moisture-resistant boards, acoustic plasterboard, vapour boards, tile backer boards and insulated plasterboard.
Choose from commonly used thicknesses including 9.5mm, 12.5mm and 15mm plasterboard, with square-edge and tapered-edge options available across selected products.
Which Plasterboard Should You Choose?
The correct plasterboard depends on where it will be installed and what performance is required from the complete wall or ceiling system.
- Standard plasterboard - commonly used for internal walls, ceilings, partitions and general dry lining.
- Fire-resistant plasterboard - designed to provide enhanced fire performance when installed as part of an appropriate tested wall or ceiling system.
- Moisture-resistant plasterboard - manufactured for areas with higher humidity, such as suitable kitchen and bathroom applications.
- Acoustic plasterboard - provides increased mass and improved sound performance as part of a suitable partition or ceiling system.
- Vapour plasterboard - includes a vapour-control backing designed for suitable wall and ceiling applications where vapour control is required.
- Insulated plasterboard - combines plasterboard with insulation to provide dry lining and improved thermal performance in one board.
- Tile backer board - designed to provide a stable backing for tiling in suitable wet and humid areas.
Where fire, acoustic, thermal, moisture or vapour performance is specified, always follow the complete system design and manufacturer guidance rather than selecting a board by thickness or colour alone.
Standard Plasterboard Sheets
Standard gypsum plasterboard is widely used for stud walls, partitions, ceilings and dry lining. It is a practical choice for general internal construction where specialist fire, moisture, acoustic or thermal performance is not required.
Our range includes popular board sizes such as 1800x900mm and 2400x1200mm, with different thickness and edge options available.
9.5mm, 12.5mm or 15mm Plasterboard?
9.5mm plasterboard is a lighter board often used for suitable ceiling and lining applications where the project specification allows.
12.5mm plasterboard is one of the most commonly used thicknesses for internal walls, partitions, ceilings and general dry lining.
15mm plasterboard provides a thicker board and may be specified where additional performance or robustness is required.
The correct thickness depends on stud spacing, application and the required wall or ceiling system, so always follow the relevant specification.
Square Edge vs Tapered Edge Plasterboard
Plasterboard is commonly supplied with either square edges (SE) or tapered edges (TE).
Square-edge plasterboard is commonly used where the complete board surface will receive a plaster skim.
Tapered-edge plasterboard has recessed long edges that allow joint tape and jointing compound to sit within the joint, making it suitable for dry-jointing systems where a full skim is not required.
Fire-Resistant Plasterboard
Fire-resistant plasterboard, often known as fire board or Firecheck plasterboard, is manufactured to provide improved fire performance compared with standard plasterboard.
Our range includes GTEC fire plasterboard for suitable wall and ceiling applications. The actual fire resistance achieved depends on the complete system, including framing, number of board layers, insulation, fixings and installation method.
Moisture-Resistant Plasterboard for Kitchens & Bathrooms
Moisture-resistant plasterboard contains additives designed to improve performance in humid environments and is commonly specified for suitable bathrooms, kitchens and similar areas.
Moisture-resistant plasterboard should not automatically be considered waterproof. For areas exposed to direct water, such as shower enclosures, a suitable tile backer board or waterproofing system may be required.
Acoustic Plasterboard for Sound Reduction
Acoustic plasterboard is designed to help improve sound reduction when incorporated into a suitable wall or ceiling construction.
Our range includes GTEC dB acoustic boards for suitable internal stud walls, ceilings and lining systems. Overall sound performance depends on the entire construction, including framing, insulation, board layers and sealing details.
Vapour Plasterboard
Vapour plasterboard combines plasterboard with a foil backing that provides improved vapour resistance.
It can be used in suitable external wall and ceiling lining systems where vapour control is required. Always check the construction specification before selecting a vapour-control board.
Insulated Plasterboard
Insulated plasterboard, also known as thermal laminate board, combines standard plasterboard with rigid insulation.
Our range includes PIR-backed insulated plasterboard in different insulation thicknesses for suitable masonry walls and dry-lining applications where improved thermal performance is required.
For larger insulation projects, you can also browse our full insulation range, including PIR boards, loft insulation, cavity insulation and EPS products.
Tile Backer Boards
Tile backer boards provide a strong and moisture-resistant substrate for tiling in suitable bathroom, shower and other wet-area applications.
They can be particularly useful where larger or heavier tiles require a stronger backing than standard plasterboard. Check the individual board specification and installation guidance before use.
How Much Plasterboard Do You Need?
Measure the total surface area of the walls or ceilings and compare this with the coverage of the board size you plan to use.
A 2400x1200mm plasterboard sheet covers approximately 2.88m², while an 1800x900mm board covers approximately 1.62m².
Allow extra material for cuts, openings, offcuts and waste, particularly where walls or ceilings have irregular dimensions.
Plasterboard Accessories & Fixings
Alongside plasterboard sheets, you may need additional products to install and finish the system.
