Roof Tiles & Slates for Pitched Roofing Projects
Rose Building Supplies supplies a wide range of roof tiles and slates for pitched roofs, extensions, renovations, replacement work and new-build projects.
Our range includes double pantile, double Roman, standard pattern, plain and flat roof tiles, together with ridge tiles, creasing tiles and natural slate. Products are available from leading manufacturers including Russell, Sandtoft, Marley, FP McCann and Crest.
Which Roof Tile Profile Should You Choose?
The right tile depends on the roof design, required appearance, pitch and manufacturer specification.
- Double pantile tiles - profiled interlocking tiles with a flowing, traditional appearance.
- Double Roman tiles - distinctive profiled tiles with rounded and flat sections, suitable for many traditional and modern roofs.
- Standard pattern tiles - practical interlocking concrete tiles used on a wide range of pitched roofing projects.
- Plain tiles - smaller-format tiles often chosen for traditional roof designs and detailed roofing work.
- Flat tiles - provide a cleaner, more contemporary roofline with a flatter profile.
- Natural slate - quarried roofing slate for projects requiring a traditional natural-stone finish.
Concrete Roof Tiles
Concrete roof tiles are widely used for pitched roofing because they are durable, available in a variety of profiles and colours, and suitable for many residential roofing applications.
Our current range includes concrete roof tiles from manufacturers such as Russell, Sandtoft, Marley and FP McCann in profiles including Double Roman, Double Pantile, Standard Pattern and Round Top.
Natural Slate Roof Tiles
Natural slate roof tiles offer genuine stone variation and a traditional appearance. Our range includes Spanish slate in standard roof-slate sizes and matching slate-and-a-half pieces for suitable verge, hip, valley and roof-window detailing.
Because natural slate varies in thickness, colour and texture, product appearance should be expected to vary slightly from piece to piece.
Double Pantile vs Double Roman Roof Tiles
Double pantile tiles have a softer wave-like profile, while Double Roman tiles have a more defined combination of rolls and flat sections.
Both are commonly used on pitched roofs, but they create different visual effects and have different installation requirements. The correct choice should follow the roof design and manufacturer guidance.
What Are Ridge Tiles Used For?
Ridge tiles are fitted along the highest point of a pitched roof where two roof slopes meet. Some ridge products can also be used on hips, depending on the tile and roofing system.
Our range includes multi-ridge, half-round ridge and universal ridge products in colours designed to complement compatible roof tiles.
What Are Creasing Tiles?
Creasing tiles are flat clay or concrete tiles used for details such as wall copings, corbelling, damp-proof course protection and other masonry or roofing details.
They are different from normal roof-covering tiles and should be selected according to the intended construction detail.
How Do You Choose the Correct Roof Tile?
Before ordering roof tiles, check:
- The required tile profile
- The roof pitch
- The manufacturer and product range
- The tile dimensions
- Colour and finish
- Required headlap and gauge
- Whether matching ridge, verge and ventilation products are needed
For repair work, matching the existing roof tile profile and manufacturer is particularly important.
Can You Match Existing Roof Tiles?
In many repair and extension projects, matching existing roof tiles is important for both appearance and compatibility.
If you are unsure which profile you have, bring a clear photo, measurements and, where practical, an existing tile to our Peterborough or Huntingdon branch so our team can help compare suitable options.
What Roof Pitch Do Tiles Need?
Minimum roof pitch varies by tile profile, manufacturer and installation specification.
For example, some Sandtoft Standard Pattern tiles in the current RBS range are suitable for pitches down to 17.5° in specified smooth-finish applications, but this should not be assumed for every roof tile. Always check the individual product specification before installation.
How Many Roof Tiles Do You Need?
The number of tiles required depends on the roof area, tile size, gauge, headlap and roof design.
Measure the roof area and use the manufacturer’s coverage information for the selected tile. Allow extra tiles for cuts, breakages and future repairs, especially on roofs with hips, valleys, dormers or other detailed areas.
What Else Do You Need for a Tiled Roof?
A complete pitched roofing project may also require:
- Roofing battens
- Roofing membrane or felt
- Ridge and hip tiles
- Dry ridge or dry verge systems
- Roof vents or ventilation products
- Lead flashing
- Fixings and roofing accessories

Roof Tiles for Repairs & Extensions
Roof repairs often require only a small number of replacement tiles, while extensions may need a larger quantity that matches the existing roof as closely as possible.
Check the tile profile, dimensions, colour and manufacturer before ordering. Older roof tiles may have weathered over time, so a new replacement may initially look slightly different in colour.
Roof Tiles for Autumn & Wet Weather
Autumn is a useful time to inspect pitched roofs before prolonged wet and windy weather.
Look for cracked, slipped or missing tiles, damaged ridge sections and signs of water ingress. Replacing damaged tiles early can help reduce the risk of further weather-related problems.
