Insulation for Walls, Floors, Lofts & Roofs
Rose Building Supplies stocks a wide range of thermal insulation products for new builds, extensions, renovations, loft upgrades and general construction projects. Our insulation range includes PIR insulation boards, cavity wall insulation, loft insulation rolls, mineral wool slabs, cavity closers and expanded polystyrene (EPS) boards.
Insulation is available in a choice of materials, thicknesses and formats to suit different parts of a building, including walls, floors, roofs, lofts and cavities. Always check the individual product specification and your project requirements when selecting the correct insulation type and thickness.
Which Type of Insulation Do You Need?
The right insulation depends on where it is being installed, the required thermal performance and the construction build-up.
- PIR insulation boards are rigid foil-faced boards commonly used for floors, walls and pitched or flat roof applications.
- Loft insulation typically uses mineral wool rolls or slabs to reduce heat loss through the roof space.
- Cavity insulation is designed for suitable masonry cavity wall construction and is available in mineral wool slab formats.
- EPS insulation boards provide a lightweight rigid insulation option for suitable floor, wall and roof applications.
- Cavity closers are used around window and door openings to close cavities and help reduce cold bridging.
If your project drawings or specification state a particular insulation type, thickness, thermal conductivity or required U-value, follow those requirements rather than choosing insulation purely by thickness.
PIR Insulation Boards for Floors, Walls & Roofs
PIR insulation boards are a popular high-performance rigid insulation option used across a wide range of construction projects. Our foil-faced PIR boards are available in multiple thicknesses for suitable floor, wall and roof applications.
The correct thickness will depend on the complete construction build-up and the required thermal performance. Our range includes commonly used PIR board thicknesses such as 25mm, 50mm, 70mm, 75mm, 100mm, 120mm and 150mm, subject to current stock availability.
Individual PIR product pages include thermal conductivity and R-value information where available, helping you compare products against your project specification.
Loft Insulation Rolls & Mineral Wool
Loft insulation helps reduce heat loss through the roof space and is commonly installed between and over ceiling joists in suitable cold loft applications.
Our range includes Knauf mineral wool products in different thicknesses and formats, including loft rolls and thermal and acoustic slabs. Mineral wool insulation can provide both thermal and acoustic performance, depending on the product and application.
Always check the manufacturer's application guidance before installation, particularly where multiple layers or a specific total insulation depth are required.
Cavity Wall Insulation
Cavity insulation is designed for suitable external masonry cavity wall construction. Mineral wool cavity slabs fit between the masonry leaves to help reduce heat transfer through the wall system.
The correct product and cavity width will depend on the wall design and specification. Check the product documentation and project drawings to confirm whether full-fill or another cavity insulation system is required.
Expanded Polystyrene EPS Insulation Boards
Expanded polystyrene insulation boards, commonly known as EPS boards, provide a lightweight insulation option for suitable floor, wall and roof applications.
EPS boards are easy to handle and cut and are available in several thicknesses. Our range includes EPS70 boards in commonly used sheet sizes such as 2400x1200mm. Always check the product grade and specification against the intended application before installation.
Cavity Closers for Windows & Doors
Insulated cavity closers are used to close cavities around window and door openings. They help reduce cold bridging and limit moisture movement across the cavity when installed as part of a suitable wall system.
Our cavity closer range includes products designed for different cavity widths, so check the required cavity size before ordering.
Insulated Plasterboard & Thermal Laminate Boards
For suitable internal wall and roof applications, we also stock insulated plasterboard and thermal laminate boards. These combine plasterboard with an insulation layer, allowing thermal insulation and internal lining to be installed as part of one system.
They can be useful for renovation and dry-lining projects where improving thermal performance from the inside is required. The correct product and fixing method will depend on the wall or roof construction.
Understanding Insulation Thickness, R-Value & Thermal Conductivity
Insulation performance should not be judged by thickness alone. Different insulation materials have different thermal properties.
Thermal conductivity, often shown as a lambda value in W/mK, indicates how readily heat passes through a material. A lower thermal conductivity generally indicates better insulation performance for the same thickness.
R-value measures the resistance of a material layer to heat flow. A higher R-value indicates greater thermal resistance.
The overall thermal performance of a wall, floor or roof depends on the complete construction build-up, not simply one insulation product. Where a required U-value is specified, follow the project design, building-control requirements or appropriate professional guidance.
Insulation for Extensions, Renovations & New Builds
Insulation is commonly required throughout building projects, including external walls, ground floors, roofs, lofts and internal upgrades. The required insulation type and thickness should normally be identified on the construction drawings or specification.
When planning an extension or renovation, you may also need related materials such as structural timber, plasterboard, roofing materials, damp-proofing products, fixings and other building materials.
Insulation in Peterborough & Huntingdon
Insulation boards, rolls and slabs are available for collection from our Peterborough and Huntingdon branches, subject to stock availability. We also provide local delivery for many insulation products across Peterborough, Huntingdon and surrounding areas.
Our Peterborough branch in Fengate supplies insulation to builders, tradespeople and DIY customers across Peterborough and nearby areas, while our Huntingdon branch at The Bridge Centre on St Peters Road serves Huntingdon and surrounding parts of Cambridgeshire.
Stock availability varies by product and branch, so check the individual product page or contact our team if you require a particular insulation thickness, quantity or specification.
Insulation Delivery to Corby
We also provide an insulation delivery service to the Corby area. Rose Building Supplies does not operate a physical branch or collection point in Corby, so orders for Corby are supplied by delivery from our other branches.
Delivery availability and minimum order requirements can vary, so contact our team if you need to confirm delivery to your postcode before ordering.
Need Help Choosing Insulation?
If you are unsure which insulation product you need, contact our team with the application, required thickness and any information shown on your project drawings or specification.
We can help you identify suitable products from our range, but where thermal calculations, U-values or Building Regulations compliance need to be confirmed, the complete construction specification should be checked by the appropriate designer, building professional or Building Control.
